Web Today

Serendipity
This is based on the concept of network neutrality, where everyone has the same level of access to the web and that all data moving around the web is treated equally.

Before it was hype
What I object to about "Web 2.0" is that it was created to exclude people from the conversation, and by the way, I'm one of those people. They're planning the third Web 2.0 conference, and I haven't gotten an invite to present, and I'm not holding my breath.

The End of an Era
The end came last Friday. That's when Wikipedia's founder, Jimmy Wales, proposed "that we eliminate the requirement that semi-protected articles have to announce themselves as such to the general public." The "general public," you see, is now an entity separate and distinct from those who actually control the creation of Wikipedia. As Vaughan-Nichols says, "And the difference between Wikipedia and a conventionally edited publication is what exactly?".

One day's Essentials

Todd Dominey's Masterpiece
Create as many unique galleries as you need for multiple slide shows with Director's user-friendly drag and drop gallery setup system.
Woefully Inadequate
Instead of complex VM security models applied to general purpose languages, we'd be better off using domain specific languages that are by design limited to provably safe activities. I see a future more about simple and small special purpose languages that can be connected easily, and less about giant bloated do-it-all beasts like C# and Java.
Skinning rabbits
The parellization aspect is also important. By default, both Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox will only download two resources from a single domain at once when using persistent connections (as suggested in the HTTP 1.1 spec, section 8.1.4). This means that while we’re waiting to download those JavaScript files, 2 at a time, we’re not loading image assets - the page our users see during the loading phase will be missing its images.
Require Positioning
What if we use JavaScript to determine when we’ve made a mistake and simply correct it? Instead of looping through all the contained elements, looking for the tallest and setting the containing elements’ height to match, the function would determine the tallest contained element and change its positioning to relative and its siblings to absolute..

The Good Son

This is a personal post.

Dj Sideral, Aleix Vergès nickname as a DJ,  for whom we knew him, died last Friday due to a heart attack while he slept.

DJ Sideral Aleix Verges

Sideral, as a DJ, will be not with us anymore, nor Aleix. His music, but, will remain as solid as Stonehedge. Forever will.

Good luck, wherever you are now, friend.

Azogue V01

Days ago, I noticed about Azogue, a personal web-site done with WordPress. Enough. NO Way.

Azogue will be oriented as "The Life and Death of a pal...", a multimedia content, flash, quicktime et al product to be stumbled and get fun with it.

I think there is enough blogs in the web, to bring a new one into life. Egoistic ego is big, but not that big.

And a spaniard blog does not deserve your, nor mine, time to waste in it.

Private content will be the matter. Have a look

Right On Line

A submit button
Google was not a success because their homepage was sparse. They were a success because they brought a better technique to solving a real world problem, and didn’t ever go off-message. And partly because it didn’t take much explaining, and partly because they were the scrappy underdog, and partly because they were going against the design trend of the time, their homepage was utterly bereft of any hint of design.
No Best Practices
...since Arrays (the big "A" type) in JavaScript are meant to represent numerically indexed things, using them as an associative array violates the principle of least surprise. Array.length doesn't count properties added in the above manner. so the above example would return 0. The Array constructors also don't allow for string keys, further demonstrating that they are really meant for numeric indexes.
Flexible Framework
If the body tag has an
id
of “blog” and a
class
of “article”, all text should be black.
Stop, In the Name of Love
Causing web developers to buy more software and hardware simply to test seems an unlikely scenario; but somehow, test we must.

False Expression

Drinking tea and reading a post about real meaning of CSS to some companies, then, it comes the following:

Microsoft has a Live Preview of their Expression software tailored to web designers who want to create standards-compliant, CSS-based sites.

In a pure MS style, this is what you obtain as a response when you have a request to  Microsoft's Expression Web-Site:

"We are encountering technical difficulties.
We are working on this problem right now
and hope to have it resolved soon.

Please check back again tomorrow morning PST."

So.. .ehem .. Is this the future of the ever changing web?.

Tricks and tips for you, honey.

One: Problems debugging your pages with WebKit Safari ?

First, do this: Open a Terminal window in you MAC OS X and type:

defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1

Safari's "Debug" menu allows you to turn on the logging of JavaScript errors. Easy, so easy...

Via Design-Nation.

Two: Problems visualizing your pages correctly from IE 5.2 for Mac? This could be due to the improper use of WYSIWYG software.

Here, you'll find NotePad - a missed one - for MAC OS X.

There, you'll find Mac NotePad for MAC OS X and MAC 9.

Hope it has helped you.

ADDENDA: If you know about other excellent software for writting textfiles in MAC, please, do not doubt to hesitate me.

Yours Truly.

Desktop Speers

Mon Dec 12 19:35:58 PST 2005:

Gnome seems to be developed by interface nazis, where consistently the excuse for not doign (sic) something is not "it's too complicated to do", but "it would confuse users".

Via Linus Torvalds.

Uh,uh.. Some intelligentsia peepers should read this and fix the problem.

Version 9

*Note from the editor: Contents and links from this post, written in May of the year 2006, have been revised and updated in the year 2012.

Just had a visit to Adobe Labs, and get a pick to make a clean install of  Flash Player 9, and its standalone Debugger in my computer. Great.

I was mostly interested, however in the Spry framework for Ajax, released under BSD license.

For the use with Adobe's Flex framework - not any other framework,my apologies - Spry is a JavaScript library for web designers that provides functionality that allows designers to build pages that provide a richer experience for their users.

Recommendation: Why do you  not to explore by yourself, the next week-end Adobe's  Flex_sdk_2_0_beta3, built on the foundation of ActionScript 3.0. ?

That wouldmean  twenty well spent minutes.

Using only the free Flex SDK, you can commercially deploy Flex applications that connect to XML and SOAP web services with no additional costs or server licensing required.

Juice into your glass. Serve it chilled.

Scriveners

Brand new article on usability attitudes, formerly known as marketing plus brand, in A List Apart this week.

Mr. Derek Powazek remind us the importance of writing well ; cleverly and clearly in his quick-to-read article.

At least, I've found a good definition for this, your blog:

"This is not just marketing text (though it’s that, too). It’s interface."

For you, my beloved designer friend.

ADDENDA: Meanwhile find myself still fighting against Word Press, and its -still - darkest way to treat and correct those 404.

Aged Experience in Usability

Mr. Nielsen has published his Trends for Usability Professionals on May 8, 2006.

The difference between new and experienced staff ought to be even larger. In the usability field, skill is strongly dependent on experience. University courses rarely teach the details of how to correctly run a usability study. As a result, entry-level staffers typically need extensive mentoring before they can do a good job in practical projects...

Chips on my shoulder...Mmmh, I'm proudly getting older.

Azogue

Azogue is a part of my other self. Currently a newborn blog, initially written in spanish and devoted to the music and life of a pal named Ramírez.

Less than a few pretention to write in this - your blog - about things and focus myself on real notation. From now on, this blog would be oriented more to languages, software and visual themes, deserving music, life and other passions involved in my daylife and nightmares for Azogue.

Don't be sad for the missing , honey, you can always can have a read to practice your spanish. Not my mother-in-tongue language,

Note from the editor 2015: The project named Azogue did not see the light on the web. The music  succeeded later under the alias known as DR, producing and designing a collection of music and sounds for collection of sound for cinema and exhibitions that you may to hear, there

Busy

Currently developing Meet Ramirez, a brand new site featuring music videos et al.

Converting QuickTime movies into Flash Video might be exciting sometimes. ;-)

Besides, teaching ActionScript and Coldfusion courses at Crea Formación, in BCN.

Weekends, enjoying a new position as musical director in a small company. Film Production.

Busy days, these days.
